We Treat Snoring and Sleep Apnea Using Oral Appliance Therapy

Treatment For Snoring

People often ask: “How do I stop my spouse from snoring?” Snoring may not affect the sleep of the snorer, but can be a serious obstacle to a good night sleep for a bed partner. Snoring is often associated with sleep apnea, but not necessarily.  It is, however, an indication that there is resistance through the airway. It can also be a precursor to developing OSA later in life.

Wellspring Dental Sleep Center can help you or your partner stop snoring. We use special snoring appliances to restore quiet, restful sleep. The appliances we use to treat sleep apnea are also very effective in eliminating snoring.

Treatment for Sleep Apnea

We treat sleep apnea patients with oral appliance therapy.  Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) is a method of treating patients with obstructive sleep apnea using a custom oral appliance. These appliances are sometimes called Mandibular Advancement Devices.  There are different types of Mandibular Advancement Devices, but they all are designed to advance the lower jaw forward and hold it in place while the patient sleeps.  Holding the lower jaw forward in the advanced position helps maintain an open airway, reducing or eliminating your sleep apnea, allowing you to breathe more and sleep better.

How Do I Get Treated With Oral Appliance Therapy?

The process begins by requesting a sleep study from your doctor.  Your primary care physician usually refers you to a sleep medicine doctor who will conduct the test.  Once the results are determined, you can discus the best treatment for your sleep apnea.  If you’ve already been diagnosed with sleep apnea and would like to switch from CPAP to Oral Appliance Therapy, contact your doctor and ask for a referral to WellSpring Dental Sleep Center.

Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) is a very effective treatment for individuals with mild to moderate sleep apnea, but on occasion, we have also treated people successfully with severe sleep apnea.  Once your sleep medicine doctor refers you to us, we can begin to evaluate and treat you for a custom-fitted appliance.
